Building on five years of experience in Lurë, we have now expanded our sustainable model to Korçë, marking the beginning of a growing network that connects regions and communities across the country.

Since March 2025, we have been operating two Tree nurseries, doubling our efforts, responsibilities, and impact. It’s both challenging and exciting, but above all, a step toward a greener future for Albania. Both nurseries, located at 1,100m (Fushë-Lurë) and 1,200m (Voskopojë), are equipped with solar-powered, automated monitoring systems that track seedling growth and collect valuable data for more efficient management.

Currently, our nurseries cultivate Pinus nigra, Pinus heldreichii, Pinus peuce, and Abies alba, all grown from seeds collected within Lurë-Dejës Mt. National Park, alongside Fagus sylvatica and Tilia cordata, from seeds generously donated by the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, which continues to support us with expertise and advice.

Our work is primarily carried out by the local team, with workers from nearby villages accounting for 90% of the work. Volunteers, partners, and schools join symbolically during weekends, adding their energy to the effort. The team is diverse (65% men, 35% women), often involving entire families from the communities living next to the forests we restore.

What hasn’t changed?

Growing trees: we can now collect more seeds and nurture more seedlings. Who can resist a baby tree grown at high altitude?

Planting trees: the grand finale of a year-long cycle, and the most rewarding part of our work.

Community employment: as in the past five years, we continue offering seasonal jobs to youth, women, and men in Lurë and Voskopojë.

Workshops: every time we host children or young people at the nursery or in the field, it feels like planting the seed of a new friendship.
