Our Work
Trees for Albania, formerly Trees for Lurë, is a non-profit dedicated to restoring the high-altitude forests of Albania. The project started in Lurë and has now expanded to Korçë, building a growing network of tree nurseries and Reforestation sites that connect communities and ecosystems across Albania.
Our Reforestation project is 90% executed by the local community, including site preparation and planting trees. The team consists of 60% men and 40% women, and often, entire families take part in our work. We invite volunteers to help with the remaining 10% of planting and workshops. Our tree nurseries are located at 1,100m in Fushë-Lurë and 1,200m in Voskopojë are among the highest in the Balkans. Both are equipped with a 100% solar-powered intelligent monitoring and control system, allowing us to monitor the environmental conditions in real-time and automate the irrigation system.
